Pigeon Forge Tennessee Real Estate

Occupying a narrow valley along Little Pigeon River between Sevierville and Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge is a beautiful city of over 11 square miles. Surrounding Pigeon Forge, Tennessee real estate are high ridges that envelop the city on three sides—Pine Mountain on its west, Shield Mountain to the east and Cove Mountain to its south.

Pigeon Forge was named after an iron forge built by pioneer Isaac Love in the early 1800s and the flocks of Passenger Pigeons that used to frequent the banks of the Little Pigeon River. Over a century ago, the city was nothing more than a little mountain hamlet with a small fort and lacking major road access. The nearest railroad station then was the one in Sevierville. However, when the Great Smokey Mountains National Park was opened in 1934, changes soon took place.

In the 1950s, U.S. Route 441, also known as the Parkway, opened up the city to visitors. Lodges and campgrounds began to appear. The fact that Gatlinburg became much harder to develop during these years only made Pigeon Forge the better choice for entrepreneurs.

Today, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee real estate has become an ideal place to live in. The city not only features great shopping options; residents are also afforded the opportunity to engage in worthwhile activities. Whether it’s basketball or baseball, tennis or swimming, the Pigeon Forge City Park can accommodate all of these. This 18-acre park even has a mile-long walking trail great for those who want to see the city’s outdoors up close.

A Pigeon Forge icon is the Dollywood Theme Park, one of the city’s premier destinations. Originally known as Rebel Railroad, and Silver Dollar City a few years later, the theme park would take its current name when Dolly Parton became a part owner in the 80s. Throughout these changes and among its many thrilling rides, the park’s main attraction is still its full-size steam train.
